Manchester, in the north-west of England, is commonly known as England’s second city. The city was at the forefront of the industrial revolution in the mid 19th century. The city’s architecture is still populated with mills and canals that were developed during that era.
Manchester has become known for its rich musical history with bands such as The Smiths, Joy Division, New Order, Oasis and The Courteeners, all coming from Manchester. During the late 1980s and early 1990s in Manchester, a new cultural scene developed that went on to be known as “Madchester”. The new acid house scene was focused around the legendary club, The Hacienda and is still influencing music today.
Manchester also has a rich sporting heritage, with Manchester United and Manchester City; currently two of the world’s greatest football teams, calling the city home.
