Birmingham, it’s a special place full of culture, art and welcoming people. The birthplace of Cadbury’s chocolate, creators of HP Brown sauce and home vibrant music scene, birthing bands such as Black Sabbath, UB40, The Streets and Duran Duran. Sketchbook Design has created some great Birmingham art inspired by the city and in this blog, we will be sharing it with you… 

Birmingham art

Our Birmingham print from our Cities and Places collection features all the best that Birmingham has to offer! We’ve showcased iconic landmarks such as the Birmingham Library, The Alexandra Theatre and the Bullring. Musicians including Ocean Colour Scene and ELO. Highlighted great areas of the city such as the Jewellery Quarter, the Baltic Triangle, Bournville and Digbeth. I have tried to represent all aspects of this rich and multi-cultural city. Birmingham FC

Established in 1875, Birmingham Football Club is one of the oldest and most successful teams in English football history. Birmingham is known for its passionate fans and excellent atmosphere at home games & I tried to capture that. This print features cult players, managers, chants and moments from their history. The team have an impressive list of honours, including two League Cup titles and a UEFA Intertoto Cup title. They have also been runners-up in the FA Cup twice! This print is available in a range of sizes, framed or unframed and can even come in the form of a greeting card, the perfect gift for any Bluenose!

Aston Villa

Birmingham is home to two great football teams. Aston Villa Football Club was founded in 1874 and are one of the founding members of the Football League back in 1888. They have played in the top tier of English football for the majority of their history. Aston Villa is one of the oldest and most successful football clubs in England. They have won the FA Cup seven times and the League Cup five times. They have also reached the European Cup final twice, in 1982 and in 2020, although they were ultimately unsuccessful both times. Our Aston Villa print highlights the very best players and managers and illustrates the historic team’s history! This print would look great hung in any Villan’s home! 

Black Country

The Black Country is an area of the West Midlands in England. Located to the west of Birmingham and to the east of Wolverhampton. While it’s known for its industrial heritage, with many of its towns and villages having been built on the coal and iron ore industries, it has many attractions too! Our Black Country print features local landmarks such as Dudley Castle, Oak House, The Black Country Living Museum and Himley Hall. I’ve also hand drawn all the great local food and drink, such as Orange Chips, Faggots and Peas, Banks Bitter & Bathams Brewery! The Black Country is such a special part of Birmingham. It would be rude not to visit and explore all this great place has to offer!!

Cult Classic

Birmingham’s music scene is one of a kind! Birthing some of the biggest musicians and bands over the year it also has over 50 different festivals throughout the summer. It’s also been said to be the home of some of heavy metal’s biggest stars including Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and lead singer of Led Zeppelin. Our Cult Classic Lyric print features lyrics from one of Birmingham’s most popular lyricists. Inspired by The Street’s track Let’s Push Things Forward. The iconic quote would make an ideal gift for anyone who’s a lover of Birmingham art & underground music!
